Welcome to the Grace Park Web Site!

In early 1889 two asphalt tennis courts were laid down.  A wooden pavilion was also built, which contained a lounge area and dressing rooms for ladies and gentlemen.  The grand opening of Grace Park was then held on 16th November 1889.

Since this date the club has numbered among its members some of the all-time greats of Australian tennis - men such as Australia's first Davis Cup captain Alf Dunlop, Harry Hopman, Frank Sedgman, Merv Rose, Paul McNamee and Pat Cash; women such as Lorna Gyton, Esna Boyd, Margaret Court and Kerry Reid.  Grace Park members have won a total of 133 Grand Slam singles and doubles titles.

Latest News From Grace Park

  Grace Park Women Go National
Following the successful season in Premier League our ladies’ team was included in Tennis Australia’s inaugural National League competition which was held at Melbourne Park during the second week of the Australian Open.

Blessed with great weather and the hype of the Open it was great experience for the girls, playing on a national stage complete with umpires, linesmen and ball boys.

Our first match was against Henman’s Park/Midlands Lawn from Western Australia which was a 6/0 drubbing (2 doubles and 4 singles) for our girls. Unfortunately Stacey Kyriakopolous pulled a stomach muscle and was unable to play in our second match. She was replaced by Nicolette Proctor, our 2010 Ladies’ Club Champion.

The second match against Flagstaff Freighters from South Australia was a long and even contest, being 2 all after the doubles rubbers and again equal after the first and seconded singles matches. Unfortunately Gussie O’Sullivan lost a long, tough struggle at number 3 and Nicolette was defeated at number 4.
Flagstaff then went on to be runners up to Kooyong in the final.

Summing up - a great innovative by Tennis Australia and a fantastic experience for all of the girls.

  Did you know?

Grace Park has won a minimum of one State Grade Men’s pennant every decade for the last one hundred years (barring the 40’s where there were 6 years with no play due to the war) while the Women’s State Grade have won at least one each decade for the last 60 years. Truly an enviable record.
