“Grace park broke a 10-year drought with a 3-7-50 to 1-3-37 victory over
Kooyong lawn 2, which had to back-up from a rain delayed semi-final that
morning.
Grace Park held the upper hand, when it won three of the four singles matches
though Kaden Hensel, 6-3 -5, Michael Staniak, 6-3 6-1, and Antony Hampson, 6-0
6-2.
Kooyong captain Jay Salter kept his team in touch with a 6-2 6-1 win in his
singles match. Salter provided a further spark when he combined with Jason Lee
to win their opening doubles set, 6-2, and led the second 4-2.
But Hensel and Adam Hubble picked up the set Grace Park needed to seal the title
in the other doubles tie.
Grace Park President Terry Stone praised the team for the way it played
thoughout the season.
“They were the first team for many years to go through (the season) undefeated.”
Stone said.
“It was a fantastic win and we are very proud of the team. They will be
celebrating long and hard.”
The Grand final starting time was delayed until 2pm after Kooyong’s semi-final
against MCC was not completed until the morning.
Rain interrupted the match twice, last Saturday and the previous Sunday.”
